Alaska day commemorates the anniversary of the formal transfer of the Territory of Alaska from Russia to the United States. Happy birthday, Alaska.

Seward’s Day

The last Monday of March in Alaska is Seward's Day. This state holiday exists to commemorate the signing of the Alaska Purchase Treaty, which took place on March 30th, 1867. At the time, the purchase was known as “Seward's Folly”.
